As some of you know, I have a Remington 870 Home Defense shotgun. This is a matt black Remington 870 in 12 guage with an 18" barrel and an extended magazine. Excluding the complications inherent in safely and conveniently storing a longarm for home use (a serious limitation), I've always thought this to be the best firearm for home defense.

As mentioned elsewhere on this forum, I am a strong believer in weapon mounted lights for home defense. Ulike a pistol, you don't have the option of shooting a shotgun with one hand. Therefore, it is necessary to mount the light on the gun. Up until recently, I thought the only way to do that was (a) duct tape flaslight to the forend or barrel or (b) spend $200 on an aftermarket dedicated forend from a company like Surefire.

In researching new weapons lights for my TRP Operator, I came across a $31 piece of aluminium that screws onto the extended magazine tube of most shotguns. I bought it on a whim and I'm glad I did.

My 870 is now properly set up for home defense.
