First Experience with Wilson Combat Mags
Saturday, September 16th, 2006
TSR bought a 10 round Wilson Combat magazine for a 1911. We have one observation we would like to share. The TRP Operator’s (650 rounds in and no malfuncs by the way) barrel that is not ramped. The ramp is machined into the frame. With some of the McCormick magazines, the 10 rounds mag in particular, loading a round in to the chamber by dressing the slide stop causes the first round in the mag to hit the ramp and tilt up at an extreme angle resulting in what appears to be the case mouth catching at a crevice between where the frame ramp meets the barrel. The end result is the slide stops 3/4 open. Fussing with it for a moment closes the slide. “Slingshoting” the slide back to close it from slide lock is not a problem.

The magazine follower in the Wilson mag holds the nose of the round at a higher angle. From slide lock, depressing the slide stop causes the slide to slap forward with authoritah without a problem. The salesman at Oak Tree cautioned that the WC mags don’t lock slides back reliably but we did not have a problem.
